TERIYAKI CHICKEN SUPPER - A SUCCESSFUL TRADITION CONTINUES

On September 29, 2007, the Calgary Buddhist Temple held its annual Chicken Teriyaki Supper. This event is an important fund raiser for our community, but also highlights some intrinsic aspects which makes the event special.

The chicken teriyaki supper is a showcase for the volunteer spirit that Calgary is known for. Family and friends, from grandparents to children, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike, devote countless hours in the spirit of cooperation towards making this dinner a reality. The event can also be considered a social occasion, and offers a time for newcomers to make new friends, or for other to catch up with everyone after a long summer away. The Chicken Teriyaki Dinner has now become an annual tradition in the hearts of many.

An event of this magnitude cannot even be contemplated without the dedicated support and efforts of many individuals and companies. Over 100 volunteers were involved with everything from cutting vegetables and cooking the night before, to setting up and working the day of the dinner. These volunteers continue to be the backbone for this event, and we are grateful for their support.

Of course, the organization of this dinner is really only half of the story. We rely upon the loyal patronage of hundreds of people, who make the trek to South Glenmore Park each year to eat in or take out one of our dinners.
