The 2007 Alberta
Buddhist Conference (ABC) was held November 9-11, 2007 in Lethbridge, AB.
Attendees enjoyed listening to John Harding and James Martin Sensei speak as
well as the special guest Dharma speaker, Koyo Kubose Sensei, of Chicago,
Illinois, speak about living in the "hyphen" and an "I'm not okay, you're not
okay, and that's okay" messages. A lively workshop was also conducted
called "Putting Buddhism into Practice". Sunday's banquet included a
commendation presentation by Bishop Fujikawa to Toshiko Takeda of the Raymond
Buddhist Church, and a posthumous recognition of Heidi Kounosu of the Lethbridge
Buddhist Temple. Entertainment was provided by the Southern Alberta Buddhist
Choir as a dedication, with gratitude, to the memory of Heidi Kounosu.
Sunday morning, a historical, ground-breaking
ceremony was held for the New BTSA temple being build in Lethbridge. The
new temple is an amalgamation of Southern Alberta churches including the
Lethbridge Honpa Temple, Lethbridge Buddhist Temple, Raymond Buddhist Church,
Taber Buddhist Temple and Rosemary Buddhist Church.
